Athlete Development

The New Canaan Winter Club hockey program follows the principles of the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model and USA Hockey’s American Development Model (ADM), a framework for an optimal training, competition, and recovery schedule for each stage of development.

The NCWC program provides a unique position in the youth sports landscape as it rinks and club environment allow the opportunity to bolster the program with power skating sessions, skill sessions, and a vast amount of open ice for unstructured play in an outdoor environment. These “partition” and “open hockey" sessions allow for the players to simply play with friends and/or work on their own to better their game. At the Winter Club, players are getting a unique amount of development repetitions in structured and unstructured environments.

Goal Tending Development

Weekly goalie clinics are held throughout the season to keep our goalies on top of their game. Run by NCWC goalie coach Michael Mammone, these clinics are designed to keep our goalie's technical skills sharp. These sessions are held with the philosophy that each repetition should be productive and impactful. All NCWC goalies are eligible to attend. The clinics have proven to have a significant impact on their success in past seasons. These clinics are also available to anyone considering playing goalie or just wanting to try it out. Both our full time goalies and younger goalies that may just be filling in for a weekend get a lot out of these clinics.
